About ZINE
ZINE is a contemporary preservation house founded in India to select, document and protect human-made originals before history decides what mattered.
We preserve the originals of today for the collectors of tomorrow.
ZINE is not an open marketplace and not an anti-technology movement. It is a highly curated institution for physical works whose human origin, material process and story can be evidenced from creation.
The house begins with analogue photography and handmade visual culture from India, then expands carefully across drawings, manuscripts, artist books, textiles, sculpture, ceramics and analogue recordings.
Traditional auction houses often reconstruct provenance after an object becomes important. ZINE’s advantage is provenance from birth: creator, place, process, materials, evidence, registered edition, condition and ownership history begin together.
ZINE is an independent initiative by FOI Studios and photographer Sourish Mukherjee in Kolkata. It grows from a decade of photographic study, film practice, publishing and the belief that emotion and process deserve a life beyond the feed.
