The central idea
Edition size creates trust only when it is fixed, legible and connected to the source negative. A small edition allows printing standards, signatures and condition records to remain closely controlled.
What the evidence shows
Doesn’t Matter #1 is registered at a recommended 20 by 20 inch square image size. Three collector prints may exist, alongside one ZINE Archive Proof that remains permanently outside commercial circulation.
Responsible market language separates price, cultural value and future performance. Edition discipline and transparent records can support confidence, but no documentation can guarantee appreciation.
What collectors should notice
Check the total edition, proofs, sizes and whether future editions are prohibited. Edition numbers should have individual records, and the retained archive proof should never quietly enter the market.
- Is scarcity fixed and verifiable?
- Which costs and limitations are disclosed?
- Is the value claim cultural, material or financial?
The ZINE position
ZINE uses clear edition and pricing logic while refusing invented urgency or promises of investment return.
The aim is not to turn process into mythology. It is to keep the object, its limits and the human moment behind it understandable for the next collector.
